Toyota expands high performance BC manufacturing facility

Aluminum wheel manufacturer Canadian Autoparts Toyota Inc. (CAPTIN) is undergoing its fifth expansion in British Columbia, bringing the total investment in CAPTIN’s Delta plant to over $160 million. The company was incorporated in 1983, the first manufacturing investment by a Japanese automaker in Canada. The plant engineers and produces 22 wheel models for Toyota’s vehicles globally; production capacity will increase to 1.45 million wheels per year in 2004.

“The CAPTIN plant in Greater Vancouver meets the rigorous competitive requirements set for all Toyota facilities worldwide. Also, assured energy availability is very important for our business,” said CAPTIN president, Gary Smallenberg.
