US software giant PeopleSoft has invested $20 million to open its 250-person North American support and development centre in downtown Vancouver. President and CEO Craig Conway says Vancouver was selected after an extensive search because of its highly skilled workforce and strong commitment to IT, education, research and training.
The company has stated its intention to develop more of its products in British
Columbia rather than in its headquarters in Northern California. “There are tremendous
advantages, not only in cost,” says Conway. “It starts with innovation
and design
and we feel that doesn’t come out of some of the lower cost areas such
as India, New Zealand and Europe. The real innovation and design comes out of
where product innovation is born and we think it’s born here.”
Conway also praised the provincial government for “encouraging economic development
to make BC a compelling place to do business.” PeopleSoft also extended its commitment
to BC by donating $4 million in enterprise software to the British Columbia Institute of
Technology (BCIT) for education programs.
