eBay chooses British Columbia for its tech savvy workforce

The world’s online marketplaceTM has chosen to locate its new customer support centre in Burnaby, part of the Greater Vancouver metropolitan area.

eBay had one hundred other communities vying for the centre, but company CEO Meg Whitman, who had input into selecting the location, said the deciding factor was a combination of the skilled and educated workforce and the area’s quality of life. In addition, the location offers easy access to eBay’s headquarters in San Jose, California.

The 70,000 square foot facility serving opened in April, 2003 and will employ over 1000 people over the next two years. It operates 24/7, serving its community of users through email and online chat.
