British Columbia is the third-largest motion picture production centre in North America, after only Los Angeles and New York City. Eight Below, Fantastic Four, X-Men 3, DaVinci's Inquest, Battlestar Galactica, Dark Angel and Smallville, are just some of the major movies and television series shot in British Columbia in recent years.

In 2005, more than 211 productions, worth $1.4 billion, were made in British Columbia – including 63 feature films and 124 television movies, series and pilots, and 24 animation productions. Foreign production activity was valued at $1.2 billion in 2005.
